I'd never seen this before.  I don't know what the clue is but somtimes I see it going one way, sometimes the other.    Look away for a while close eyes, look back.  Every so often it will change "direction" of spin.

the first commenter on herodotus the histories at Amazon.com recommends the translation by someone named Green (1987).  Look for it in your local library system?  Or used.  Of other translations the one by Penguin Books was listed almost as good.

I first read this as a college freshman,  I liked it then & I still like it.
